The NEET PG 2025 exam to be conducted by the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has now been postponed. Earlier this exam was to be held on 15 June 2025 in two shifts. But now it will be conducted in only one shift.
NEET PG 2025 : The decision was taken following a Supreme Court order directing that the exam be held in a single shift to maintain transparency and ensure uniformity in difficulty level.
Supreme Court order: Why not hold exams in two shifts?
The Supreme Court vacation bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Kumar, and N.K. Anjaria, struck down the NBEMS decision to hold exams in two shifts, saying:
“Conducting exams in two shifts is arbitrary and does not provide equal opportunities to all.”
The court also said that conducting exams in two shifts leads to disparity in the difficulty level of question papers, which affects the fairness and integrity of the exam.
On the basis of which petition was the decision given?
The decision was given under writ petition no. 456/2025 (Aditi & others vs National Board of Medical Examination), in which some candidates had filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the decision of NBEMS.
NEET PG 2025 की नई तारीख कब आएगी?
NBEMS has clarified that now the exam will be conducted in a single shift and the new date will be notified soon.
“NEET PG 2025 which was earlier scheduled to be held on June 15 is postponed so that more exam centres and necessary infrastructure can be arranged.” – NBEMS
Why is there a need to increase examination centres?
NBEMS informed that they need 900 additional exam centres to conduct the exam in a single shift. The lawyer told the Supreme Court that it was not possible to prepare so many centres across the country in such a short time.
The Court, however, rejected this argument, stating:
“In this age of technological advancement, there are enough resources available in the country. The examination body should make arrangements।”
